President Maia Sandu spoke by phone with her French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. The two leaders addressed various topics diverse

The head of state, Maia Sandu, had a phone conversation with her French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. According to a press release from the Presidency, the two leaders discussed the bilateral relationship and the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

"The head of state emphasized the firm commitment of our country to carry out the necessary reforms in order to meet the accession criteria. The president is confident that France will continue to play an active role in supporting Moldova in this endeavour", reads the quoted source.

The interlocutors also talked about the security situation in the region and the bilateral cooperation and support of France in the process of modernization of Moldova, including in the fields of defense, justice reform, economic development and others.

We remind that between December 14-15, the European Council will take a decision regarding the opening of the EU accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova. Until then, President Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, will hold discussions with high-level officials of all EU member states to promote the importance of launching negotiations.

In the last few days, the president of the country had phone discussions with the leaders of several states such as Greece, Belgium, Ireland, Lithuania, Denmark, Cyprus and Malta.
