European Council could find a consensus and convince Hungary to accept the launch of negotiations for accession to the EU, claims Iulian Groza

The European Council, which will meet next week in Brussels, could find a consensus and convince Hungary to accept the launch of negotiations for accession to the European Union, the executive director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, Iulian Groza, told Radio Moldova. Moreover, he said that our country could receive a positive opinion, because no EU member state announced that it would be against the start of negotiations with the Republic of Moldova.

"There is a full consensus at the EU level regarding the opening of negotiations with the Republic of Moldova. All EU countries support this decision. If a decision is made without Ukraine, my answer is - No. I don't think the EU will take a decision that would mean a separation. At this stage, there are important political criticisms not only for Ukraine, Moldova, but also for the EU. It remains to be seen what the discussions will be, what the solutions will be, who will adopt them. Personally, I am optimistic that the European Council will manage to find an elegant solution in order not to allow this process to be blocked", said Iulian Groza.

We remind that, between December 14-15 in Brussels, the high-level meeting of the European Council will take place, and the decision will be taken regarding the launch of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. This after the European Commission gave the green light on November 8.
