Moldova announces major investment in vocational schools
In a significant effort to enhance vocational education and training, the Moldovan government has allocated 18 million lei (approximately $1.01 million) to upgrade vocational schools nationwide.
This investment aims to address critical infrastructure needs, improve learning environments, and strengthen the overall quality of vocational education in the country.
Highlighting the substantial increase in funding compared to previous years, Galina Rusu, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, stated, "This year, we have seen a doubling, or even tripling, of funding for vocational schools. This was achieved through a combination of state budget allocations, complementary financing mechanisms, and project grants."
Svetlana Cucoară, the Acting Director of the Cupcini Vocational School, explained how her institution will utilise the allocated funds. "We will prioritise the repair of our roof, which was severely damaged by recent natural disasters," she said. "Additionally, the school will undergo energy efficiency upgrades to improve classroom temperatures and reduce heating costs, creating a more comfortable and sustainable learning environment."
Mircea Cherdivară, Director of the Rîșcani Vocational School, shared his school's vision for the funding. "We will leverage the resources to repair the roof, partially insulate two workshops, and establish a material base for two new trades," he explained. "Our ultimate goal is to create a more attractive and equipped environment that fosters optimal learning and skill development for our students."
This significant investment in vocational education reflects the government's commitment to equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the modern workforce. By addressing infrastructure challenges, enhancing learning environments, and introducing new training opportunities, the government aims to strengthen the vocational education system and attract more students to pursue this vital pathway.
