Expert: Fulfilling the conditions for pre-accession to the EU must be the main objective of the government in 2023
Fulfilling the nine conditions of the European Union (EU) that the Republic of Moldova must fulfil in order to start accession negotiations must be among the main priorities of the year 2023. A statement in this sense was made by the expert Mihai Mogâldea. According to him, another priority should be the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute.

"According to the objectives set internally, the authorities proposed to fulfil these conditions by June. If this happens, we can hope that in December we can get a favourable decision from the European Union on the opening of EU accession negotiations, a really impressive thing, which would bring us even closer to EU accession both from from the point of view of the time period, as well as of the interconnection of interdependence with the countries of the European Union", declared the expert Mihai Mogâldea.
It should be noted that, previously, both the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, declared that the start of negotiations for accession to the European Union in 2023 is the main objective in terms of foreign policy.
The head of diplomacy from Chisinau stated that this year partnerships with friendly countries would be strengthened, consular services for the diaspora would be improved and the promotion of the economic interests of the Republic of Moldova would be intensified.
Invited to the program "In context" from the public television station, Moldova 1, President Maia Sandu stated that the Government must make more efforts to fulfil the nine recommendations of the European Commission in order to initiate the next stage regarding the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
"My expectations are quite ambitious. I believe that we must become a member state by the end of this decade", declared the head of state.
Radio Moldova recalls that the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for accession to the European Union on June 23. In order to start the actual negotiations with a view to joining the EU, the Republic of Moldova must fulfil the nine recommendations issued by the European Commission in June. The targeted areas are: justice, combating corruption and organised crime, de-oligarization, public administration and public services reform, public finance management, strengthening the role of civil society in decision-making processes and protecting human rights.
