Moldova's EU accession talks to be complex and demanding

The opening of EU accession talks with Moldova is a historic moment, but the process will be complex and demanding, former Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlățean said on Friday.

"The negotiation of the 35 chapters of the acquis communautaire is a long and complex process, and the results will depend on the professionalism, skills, and experience of the negotiating team in Chisinau," Corlățean told Radio Moldova.

He added that Romania will continue to support Moldova throughout the process.

"After the decision of the European Council, there are many chapters that will be negotiated, and, without making priorities, some are more important than others, all are important, and they take a certain amount of time," Corlățean said. "The important thing is to have a well-functioning and experienced negotiation team, with a strong understanding of the acquis communautaire, and the political will to implement the reforms necessary for EU membership."

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau will open a Bureau for European Integration. The institution will manage the accession process internally, coordinate the work of working groups for all 35 negotiation chapters, including aligning legislation with EU norms.
