Government is examining nominations for a chief negotiator with the EU

The government in Chisinau is examining several candidates for a chief negotiator with the European Union, while waiting for an assessment by the European Commission, the vice-president of the Parliament Mihail Popșoi told Radio Free Europe.

"He will certainly be the most suitable person to help the Republic of Moldova on the European path. He must be a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, therefore, mostly from the Republic of Moldova. We are also open to our diaspora citizens. We have good specialists, we have to see who exactly will be worthy of this rather important, but also very complicated position. A decision will be made within the governing party", said Mihail Popșoi.

Mihail Popșoi said that before the accession negotiations with the European Union begin in the practical way, a new evaluation of the fulfillment by the Republic of Moldova of the recommendations received from the European Commission in November is needed and then - the establishment of a framework for negotiations.
