Torture camps, discovered by the Ukrainian police in Kharkiv

Twenty five torture camps were discovered by the Ukrainian police after the liberation from the Russian occupation of the area around the city of Kharkiv, DPA reports.

Russian troops detained and tortured civilians in inhumane conditions in these camps, regional police chief Volodymyr Timoshko wrote on Facebook on Monday. The region around the city of Kharkiv was occupied for months by Russian troops, who withdrew only in early September after a Ukrainian counteroffensive. Since then, the bodies of 920 civilians, including 25 children, killed by Russian soldiers have been discovered in the liberated region, the head of the regional police added.

According to Ukrainian authorities' investigations, Russian forces have also committed war crimes in other occupied territories. After the withdrawal of the Russian units from the Bucea suburb of the capital Kyiv, more than 400 bodies were discovered. Most of the victims suffered violent deaths. The investigation is ongoing.
