Moldova expands social security net: Switzerland, Canada, France next

Moldova's Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (MLSP) unveiled plans to bolster its social security network in 2024, targeting agreements with Switzerland, Canada, and France.

Minister Alexei Buzu announced the initiative on December 28th, highlighting its significance for Moldovan citizens residing abroad.

"The recent implementation of the agreement with Italy marks a crucial step," Buzu emphasised, acknowledging ongoing technical discussions to maximise its impact, particularly for the large Moldovan diaspora in Italy. "Looking ahead, we are actively pursuing agreements with Switzerland and Canada, while also advancing negotiations with France."

Expanding the reach to other EU member states remains a key long-term objective, Buzu revealed, indicating plans to initiate negotiations with additional countries within the bloc.

Demonstrating a commitment to transparency, the MLSP, under Buzu's leadership, has developed a map visualising existing and prospective social security agreements. This readily accessible tool allows stakeholders and the public to stay informed about the ministry's ongoing efforts.
