Six candidates registered for the contest for the position of general prosecutor

Six candidates entered the competition for the position of Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova. The announcement was made by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) on December 29. It is about lawyers Ilie Rotaru, Serghei Perju, prosecutors Igor Demciucin, Octavian Iachimovschi, Ion Munteanu and lawyer Andrei Coca.

On December 28 this year, the Parliament voted in the first reading the amendments to the Law of the Prosecutor's Office, according to which the general prosecutor is to be elected by the vote of the majority of the CSP members, and not based on the score given by each member. Meanwhile, the Superior Council of the Prosecutor's Office announced that it will meet on January 3.

We remind that the position of general prosecutor became vacant as a result of the decree signed by the president Maia Sandu on September 26, 2023. This October, the Superior Council of Prosecutors announced a competition to select the candidate. The deadline for submitting the competition files is November 22, 2023.

Subsequently, the CSP decided to extend the deadline for submitting files until December 29.
