Illegal logging is down by 40% in 2023

In 2023, 40% fewer trees were cut down illegally compared to 2022, the head of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, Ion Bulmaga, told Radio Moldova. According to him, about 3300 cubic meters of wood were cut.

"During 2023, there was a decrease in the number of illegally cut trees due to several unexpected checks by environmental inspectors and the police," said Ion Bulmaga.

According to the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, in 2023, almost 640 thousand lei were collected in the state budget from the fines applied for the illegal logging.
