Snowbound Chisinau: Buses, trolleys take a break
Winter tightened its grip on Chisinau Monday, forcing a halt to public transportation as thick snow blanketed the capital.
The Electric Transport Authority (ETA) announced the suspension of trolleybus and bus services, citing the challenging weather conditions.
"Meteorological data shows Chisinau receiving the brunt of the snowfall," the ETA declared, emphasising the need for caution amid the wintry onslaught. "We will communicate updates on when services resume after further assessment."
Earlier that day, the city's Emergency Situations Commission took decisive action, opting for a temporary suspension of public transport until 4:00 p.m. The measure aimed to prioritise safety by ensuring roads clear for emergency vehicles and preventing potential accidents.
Snowfall wreaked havoc across Chisinau, transforming some streets and sidewalks into treacherous white labyrinths. Police issued urgent advisories to motorists, urging them to exercise caution and consider alternative options if possible.
While inconveniences arose, the swift response from the ETA and Emergency Situations Commission offered a sense of composure amid the swirling snow. Residents are now left waiting for the signal to resume their commutes, hoping for the snow to relent and the wheels of public transport to churn back into life.
