Former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration proposes the reconstruction of the energy system of the Republic of Moldova to ensure energy security
In order to ensure the independence and energy security of the Republic of Moldova, the entire energy system of our country must be rebuilt from scratch, declared the former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Alexandru Flenchea, in the show "In Context" on Moldova 1 TV.
"Since last year, the Moldovagaz Company, de facto, serves practically only the left of the Nistru and, in order to provide the left of the Nistru with free natural gas, as well, it is a precondition for the cheap electricity that we procure from there. It is a vicious circle that must be broken, we must truly ensure the independence and energy security of the Republic of Moldova, or, for that, the entire energy system of our country must be rethought and reconceptualized from scratch", said Alexandru Flenchea.
We remind you that, from December 2022, the Republic of Moldova receives from the Russian concern Gazprom a daily amount of 5.7 million cubic meters of gas. This volume is received by Moldovagaz and is directed to Tiraspoltransgaz for consumers on the left side of the Nistru, including the Cuciurgan Power Plant, which produces electricity for the right side of the Nistru.
