EU leaders are looking for solutions to unlock financial aid for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros
The leaders of the EU member states will identify a solution for unlocking financial aid worth 50 billion euros for Ukraine, at an extraordinary meeting of the European Council, which will take place on February 1, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița Odobescu.
In an interview for Radio Free Romania, the official stated that the discussions regarding the financial support granted to Ukraine were resumed in Brussels in the first days of the new year, after Hungary opposed this decision in December.
"We hope we will find this solution. There are several options being discussed. It is very important that this European support continues. Obviously, we are also discussing with Hungary to identify a solution to accept this proposal, but there are also certain solutions to see if it is possible, outside the given framework, to find a solution to continue this vital support for Ukraine", said Luminița Odobescu.
We remind that, at the meeting of the European Council on December 15, 2023, Hungary opposed the decision to grant 50 billion euros to Ukraine, in the form of grants and loans in the coming years.
We remind you that Ukraine wants to obtain the approval of a 61 billion dollar defense aid package from the USA, a decision blocked by the American Congress.
