France and Germany reaffirm their support for Ukraine
The new head of French diplomacy, Stéphane Séjourné, and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, on Sunday reaffirmed their countries' desire to support Ukraine "as long as necessary" in the face of Russia's offensive, AFP and Agerpres report.
"We fully agree to say that we must support the Ukrainians for as long as necessary," Stéphane Séjourné told reporters during his first visit as minister to Berlin.
"Which means that we have to organize at the European level elements of initiatives that are coordinated to defend our values and interests," added the French minister, who traveled to Kiev the day before, without giving more details.
For her part, the head of German diplomacy, Annalena Baerbock, said that we must be "on Ukraine's side as long as necessary, until Russia withdraws" from Ukrainian territory.
This stance by the two ministers comes at a time when Kiev is worried that its European and American allies are increasingly hesitant to provide more help in the fight against the Russian invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been trying to mobilize his allies in recent weeks.
