Five judges did not pass the evaluation of the Pre-Vetting Commission
The Pre-Vetting Commission rejected the candidacies of five career judges, candidates for positions in the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). They did not meet the integrity criteria.
The decisions concern magistrates Iurie Bejenaru and Anatolie Țurcan, from the Supreme Court of Justice, Vitalie Stratan, from the Chisinau District Court, Angela Bostan, from the Chisinau Court of Appeal, and Vladislav Holban, from the Chisinau District Court, which, according to the Commission, do not meet the integrity criteria and do not promote the assessment. The members of the Commission justified their decisions not to promote the evaluation by finding serious doubts regarding the candidates' compliance with the principles of ethical and financial integrity. The commission had a common position on four of the five judges, and voted unanimously. In the case of Judge Angela Bostan, a member of the Commission formulated a separate opinion, which was attached to the decision. Up to this moment, the Pre-Vetting Commission has issued decisions regarding 13 candidates for positions in the CSM, from among the judges, from the 23 remaining in the competition. As a result, 3 magistrates passed the Commission's evaluation in terms of integrity, and 10 were disqualified by not passing the evaluation and can no longer participate in the competition for the position of member of the SCM.
