EU to tackle Ukrainian grain dumping
The European Commission is working on a set of measures to address the problems caused by the export of cheap Ukrainian grains into the five border states of Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
The announcement was made on Friday by Commission representatives, who confirmed that they had received a letter from the five states and mentioned that they would come with a proposal next week at the Agriculture Council, Rador reports.
One of the requests is to introduce import tariffs on grains from Ukraine, as they are cheaper and do not have to meet the same quality standards as those produced in the European Union.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, noted this week that the volume of Ukrainian exports to the community has doubled in the last two years. It is worth noting that, after the outbreak of the war by Russia, the European Union eliminated quotas and import tariffs for Ukrainian grains, as a measure to support Ukrainian exports.
