Russian-controlled Donetsk hit by shelling

Thirteen people were killed and ten injured in shelling of the city of Donetsk, which is illegally controlled by Russia in eastern Ukraine, Denis Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the Donetsk region, said, cited by Reuters.

According to him, emergency services are working on the ground and specialists are trying to collect fragments of the weapons used in the attack.

Russian forces claim that the shelling was carried out by Ukrainians. Kyiv has not yet commented on the information.

Donetsk is one of the four Ukrainian regions that Russia claimed to have annexed last year, in an action condemned as illegal by most member states of the UN General Assembly.
