Government campaign brings books to 50 communities
Over 5,000 books have been collected by representatives of the Moldovan government and are set to arrive in 50 communities across the country.
The initiative is part of the "Library under the Christmas tree" campaign, organised by the government during the winter holidays. The volumes of Romanian and world literature will help to replenish the book collections in libraries where there is a lack of titles, said Government spokesperson Daniel Voda.
"The book sets will go to the libraries of educational institutions in the districts of Ialoveni, Criuleni, Căușeni, Anenii-Noi, Strășeni, Ungheni, Rezina, Șoldănești, Drochia, Nisporeni, Hîncești, Florești, Cantemir, Cahul, Leova, Soroca, Dubăsari, Edineț, Chișinău, and the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit. The accumulated Romanian and world literature will help to replenish libraries that were lacking books and will encourage reading among students and schoolchildren. We encourage you to continue to contribute. Each of us can contribute to this goal of the campaign launched by the government to fill the shelves of libraries in the country and promote reading in the public space."
Daniel Voda also noted that, although the campaign has ended, citizens are always welcome to donate books, which will later contribute to the replenishment of libraries in the territories.
The first set, of 200 volumes, arrived on the shelves of the library in the village of Hîrtop, Cimișlia district, last week.
