Moldova and Romania forge closer ties to maximise EU funding
Moldova and Romania are strengthening their collaboration to leverage European Union (EU) funding more effectively, according to Sorin Năcuță, Romanian MP and host of the 11th "Boosting EU Funding Absorption by the Republic of Moldova" forum.
Năcuță underscored the importance of joint efforts in supporting Moldova's EU accession process, emphasising the potential of inter-institutional partnerships. He identified the multiannual indicative program under the EU's Neighborhood Instrument, with its €260 million allocation for 2021-2024, as a key funding source. Additional support packages, regional and thematic programs, and various financing models like loans and grants are also on the table.
"This forum has highlighted the crucial role of partnerships and joint financing programs," Năcuță stressed. "Romania too grapples with significant infrastructure needs, so a collaborative approach will benefit both parties."
The forum, held in the Romanian Parliament, drew participation from Moldovan and Romanian state secretaries, representatives of local administrations, and civil society actors.
The core objective was to devise optimal strategies for assisting Moldova's European integration aspirations through inter-institutional collaborations. These partnerships aim to expedite Moldova's absorption of EU funds by capitalising on best practices gleaned from Romania's experiences.
