First case of measles this year was registered in the Republic of Moldova. Three other cases are under investigation
In the Republic of Moldova, the first case of measles this year was registered in the Orhei district in an 8-year-old child, Veaceslav Guțu, the head of the epidemiological surveillance section of vaccine-preventable diseases of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) told Radio Moldova. According to him, 3 other suspicious cases from the districts of Orhei, Fălești and Ceadîr-Lunga are currently being investigated, and all of them must be confirmed in the ANSP laboratories, not in the local ones.
"The case from Fălești was confirmed in a laboratory within the hospital, but as measles is in the process of elimination both at the country and global level, any suspected case must be confirmed in the ANSP reference laboratory. That's why the case from Fălești is under investigation, with the 3-year-old child, and in the next few days we are going to receive the sample for repeated testing," said Veaceslav Guțu.
The National Public Health Agency emphasizes that vaccination is the only method by which parents can protect their children, because there is no specific treatment for this infection.
