Moldova doubles student grants, education majors reap biggest rewards
The Republic of Moldova has unveiled a proposal to significantly increase student grants, with some awards set to more than double current rates.
The Ministry of Education and Research unveiled the plan, open for public consultation, aiming to ease financial burdens and attract more students to higher education.
Boosting Undergraduate Support:
Under the proposed reforms, undergraduate students would receive between 970 and 1,255 lei per month, a hefty jump from the current 325 lei. This represents a staggering 200-300% increase for many beneficiaries.
Master's Students See Gains:
Master's students would also enjoy a substantial boost, with their grants climbing to 1,325 lei from the current 655 lei.
Targeted Support for Final Years and Key Fields:
Final-year students and those pursuing disciplines like education, agriculture, or medicine would benefit further, receiving grants ranging from 1,160 to 1,485 lei.
Education Majors Top the Charts:
Education students would be the biggest beneficiaries, with grants between 2,320 and 2,970 lei per month. In their final year, this would swell to 2,720-3,460 lei.
Technical Students Join the Benefits:
Students at vocational and technical institutions would also see their grants rise to 745-970 lei per month, marking a considerable improvement from the current 325 lei.
