Oleg Serebrian: The 5+2 format of negotiations regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is not cancelled
The 5+2 format of political negotiations regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, which was put on hiatus since 2019, is officially not cancelled, said the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Oleg Serebrian, on Radio Moldova.
According to him, the return to this political format is conditioned by the improvement of relations between Moscow and Kiev. "First of all, Tiraspol, but also Moscow have repeatedly considered that the right time has not yet come to reach the so-called package 3 of the negotiations. Practically since 2019, this format has been put on hiatus. First the COVID, then the start of the war in Ukraine froze it for good. Until the end of the war in Ukraine, we cannot talk about its thawing. As long as the relations between Kiev and Moscow are as they are, we cannot talk about unfreezing this format of negotiations, which is officially not cancelled, but it is frozen," said the deputy prime minister.
Oleg Serebrian said that maintaining dialogue, stability and firmness regarding the gradual reintegration process of the country remain priority actions for 2024.
We remind you that last October, the president of the country, Maia Sandu, declared that the authorities have a vision regarding the reunification of the country. According to the head of state, in the new format to be created, the European Union will have a much more important role, because the Republic of Moldova will become a member state of the community block.
