Natalia Gavrilița thanked Romania for granting us electricity at a capped price

During the working visit to Bucharest, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița had a meeting with her Romanian counterpart, Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.

The Head of the Executive from Chisinau thanked Prime Minister Ciucă for the prompt measures taken by Romania with the aim of mitigating the impact of the energy crisis, which has hit our country, especially when it comes to the supply, at a preferential price, of electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and firewood fire.

The parties discussed, in this context, the actions that could be taken in the future to increase the energy security of the Republic of Moldova, emphasising the infrastructure projects that would ensure the connection between our country and Romania in the medium and long term.

"We appreciate the decision announced today about the procurement of additional amounts of electricity - 100 MW from Hidroelectrica at a capped price. Beyond the short-term needs, we want to speed up the interconnection with the transport system in Romania by accelerating the construction of the Chisinau-Vulcăneşti high-voltage line and starting the procedures on the Bălți-Suceava line", said Prime Minister Gavrilița.

During the discussions, the parties discussed the security risks and measures to combat the hybrid challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova. The officials also referred to the projects being implemented, the construction project of the Leova-Bumbăta bridge, which is to be completed by the end of the current month, was also mentioned.

At the same time, the officials referred to the importance of accelerating the implementation of the 100 million euro grant and the disbursement by the end of 2022 of 25 million euro for projects in the field of education and public administration. At the same time, the officials appreciated the jump in the foreign trade figure of the Republic of Moldova with Romania. In the first semester of the current year, a 70% increase in bilateral trade was recorded, Romania being in first place in the ranking of our country's commercial partners and in second place among the main investors.
