Moldova bolsters social safety net with EU-backed services
At least 15 Moldovan communities will soon benefit from improved social services thanks to a new European Union-funded initiative.
The "Promoting CSOs as Partners in Developing Resilient Social Services" project aims to empower civil society organisations (CSOs) to deliver essential services such as laundry facilities, personal hygiene resources, and community engagement opportunities to vulnerable populations.
"This project signifies a crucial step forward in expanding social services across Moldova," declared Vasile Cușca, Secretary of State for Labor and Social Protection. "Our ongoing social assistance system reform prioritises the development and accessibility of essential services for all vulnerable groups. This European Union initiative directly aligns with our efforts to ensure equitable access to support across the Republic."
Running from 2023 to 2025, the project will see 16 grant-winning CSOs collaborate with local authorities to implement these services. Keystone Moldova, the Moldovan branch of Stichting Dorcas Aid International, and the Neohumanist Education Association spearhead the project's implementation, aiming to equip local CSOs with the resources and expertise to deliver age- and gender-sensitive services for Moldova's most vulnerable citizens.
