Moldova pours into rural development: "European Village" continues
Prime Minister Dorin Recean pledged sustained development for rural areas by confirming the continuation of the popular "European Village" project in 2024.
Celebrating with local authorities on their professional day, he highlighted the impact of the 541 projects already completed, underlining their role in raising living standards and fostering European-style modernization.
Recean described the initiative, backed by the EU and the Moldovan government, as not just a local improvement program but a strategic investment. "It prepares us, both local and central administrations, for the ambitious projects to come," he stated.
Prioritising Essentials: Recognizing the paramount importance of basic infrastructure, the Prime Minister emphasised water, sewage, and water treatment plants as key priorities for the next project phase. "Our health begins here," he stressed, acknowledging the essential role these elements play in rural communities. Other project categories, including public lighting upgrades, construction initiatives, and public building renovations, remain firmly on the agenda, alongside a dedicated energy efficiency program.
Ambitious Growth: Moldova's commitment to rural development extends beyond the "European Village" project. Recean confirmed the approval of a 2024-2026 development plan, encompassing an additional 100 investment projects and 155 local development initiatives. Notably, 190 villages are earmarked for connection to the public drinking water system, further elevating their quality of life.
With its sustained focus on rural improvement, Moldova's "European Village" project stands as a testament to the nation's dedication to bridging the urban-rural divide and ensuring equitable development for all citizens.
