EU funds fuel growth, living standards rise in Romania
Romania has accessed over €89 billion in European Union funds since joining the bloc in 2007, according to Economy Minister Ștefan Radu Oprea.
The minister took to social media to highlight the positive impact of EU membership on the country's economy and living standards.
Oprea stated, "In the past 17 years, Romania has enjoyed an average annual economic growth exceeding 3%, ranking second in the region only to Poland, and surpassing the EU average of 1.2%." He further emphasised the significant rise in the minimum wage, jumping from 390 lei in 2007 to 3,300 lei as of January 2024.
The minister attributed these improvements to the diverse projects financed by EU funds, spanning areas like infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He concluded by emphasising the role of EU funding in fostering "a more prosperous and inclusive society" in Romania.
