Minor earthquake shakes Western Romania
A minor earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck the Banat region of Timiș County, Romania, shortly after midnight local time (00:06 AM), according to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INCDFP).
"A weak earthquake with a magnitude of 3 occurred at midnight, at 00:06 local time, in Banat, Timiş County," confirmed the INCDFP.
The tremor occurred at a depth of 9.8 kilometres and was felt near the cities of Timișoara (34 km south), Reșița (50 km west), Arad (81 km south), and Belgrade, Serbia (95 km northeast).
No injuries or material damage were reported.

This marks the 30th earthquake recorded in Romania since the beginning of 2024, with magnitudes ranging from 2.1 to 4.3 on the Richter scale.

In comparison, the strongest earthquake of 2023 occurred on February 14th in Gorj County, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale and occurring at a depth of 6.3 kilometres.
