Nicu Popescu announces when the social security agreement with Latvia could be signed

The Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Latvia would sign this year two important agreements for the citizens of both states. It is about the Agreement on the recognition of driving licenses and the one in the field of social security, declared in Riga, in a joint briefing with his Latvian counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu.

"We have excellent cooperation with the Republic of Latvia, although relations between our countries were established 30 years ago. The cooperation with Latvia dates back much earlier and we have always felt Latvia's support, including now when the Republic of Moldova has the status of a candidate country for EU accession and we have to implement several reforms. Also, like the other EU states, but also other development partners, the Latvians help us in managing the refugee crisis in Ukraine. It should be noted that Latvia has supported over 90 projects that contribute to the development of the Republic of Moldova and the democratization of Moldovan society. I discussed with my Latvian counterpart the intensification of trade and economic cooperation. Thus, a meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic, industrial and technical-scientific cooperation would be organized this year. We also propose to expand the legal framework, this year, two more very important bilateral agreements should be signed for the benefit of the citizens", declared Nicu Popescu. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, said that his country will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in its European journey, as well as in overcoming the crises generated by the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
