Antony Blinken seeks Israel-Hamas ceasefire on Middle East visit

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken travels in the Middle East on Monday to encourage a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, where fighting and airstrikes persist unabated, reports Hotnews.ro.

As the conflict enters its fifth month on Wednesday, the Israeli military bombed Khan Younès again on Sunday, in the southern territory, where it claims leaders of the Palestinian Islamist movement are hiding.

According to the military, it conducted a raid on a complex used by Hamas to prepare the bloody attack on October 7. The army stated that it served as a training centre for Hamas, with models of entrances into kibbutzim, military bases, and Israeli armoured vehicles.

"Mohammad Sinouar had an office in the building," said the army. This senior commander of Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, is the brother of Yahya Sinouar, the leader of the Islamist movement in the Gaza Strip and considered the mastermind behind the October 7 attack.

According to the UN, the city, which had 270,000 inhabitants before the war, currently hosts over 1.3 million people who have fled due to the fighting that has devastated the besieged territory.
