A new case of measles, confirmed in the Republic of Moldova. It is the second this year

In the Republic of Moldova, a new case of measles was confirmed in a 17-year-old young man from Ialoveni, informs the National Public Health agency. According to the source, the teenager was not vaccinated according to the National Immunization Calendar, the reason being the parents' refusal.

"As a result of the epidemiological investigation, it was established that the disease started acutely on January 30, with high fever, cough, rhinorrhea, conjunctivitis, later, skin rashes appeared. The patient sought medical assistance and was hospitalized for treatment", informs the ANSP.

Medical workers and specialists in the field of immunizations call on the population to be aware of the danger of spreading measles and other diseases that can be prevented by vaccination (whooping cough, diphtheria, mumps, rubella, viral hepatitis B, tuberculosis, rotaviral infection, infection with pneumococci, Haemophilus influenzae type b infection, human Papilloma virus infection), this being the most effective and safe method of prevention.

In the Republic of Moldova, vaccination coverage, in recent years, has a decreasing trend, according to ANSP.

Since the beginning of this year, this is the second case of measles registered in the country, the first was confirmed in a child from Orhei district. In 2023, three cases of measles were recorded, and during the years 2021 and 2022 no case was recorded.

Specialists claim that there is no specific treatment for measles.
