The USA offers $30 million to strengthen the energy security of the Republic of Moldova. Maia Sandu: "It will help us maintain stability in the country"
The United States of America (USA) offers the Republic of Moldova direct budget support in the amount of $30 million, to strengthen the energy sector. "The international community is with us", declared the president of the country, Maia Sadu, who claims that, thanks to the support of the USA, the Republic of Moldova will get through this winter "easier".
According to USAID, the additional funding will help the Government in Chisinau address rising energy prices "caused by the Kremlin's unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine."
"This assistance is critical as Russian pressure has exacerbated Moldova's energy and fiscal challenges and is a key element of the $320 million in emergency support the United States has provided since February to help Moldova address the economic, energy, security and humanitarian impact of Putin's war against Ukraine", the statement issued by USAID states.
President Maia Sandu thanked the United States of America for its support "in these difficult times".
"The Republic of Moldova needs support and the international community is in solidarity with us. Grateful for the support of $30 million to strengthen the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova. This will help us manage the challenges of winter and maintain stability in the country", wrote President Maia Sandu.
Moldova 1 recalls that in 2023 the partnership between USAID and the Republic of Moldova will be thirty years old. Since 1992, the American people have invested more than $640 million in our country through USAID's assistance programs to strengthen democratic governance and economic growth, and to improve education and health care outcomes, as well as to address urgent humanitarian needs, including the needs of refugees from Ukraine.
