Over 50% of Moldovan Researchers Are Women
Over 50% of researchers in Moldova are women, with the majority working in the humanities.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, half of all female researchers hold a PhD title, and one in three holds a habilitation doctorate. The fewest women researchers work in the fields of natural sciences, agriculture, and engineering, said Adriana Cazacu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research.
"The humanities see the highest representation of women researchers at 61.3%, followed by medical sciences with 60.2%, and social and economic sciences with 56.4%. However, there are three other areas dominated by men: agricultural sciences, engineering sciences, and technologies and natural sciences," said Adriana Cazacu.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2022 there were 2,809 researchers in Moldova, of which 1,429 were women.
