Romania is the main destination of exports from the Republic of Moldova

During the past year, more than 35 percent of the goods of the Republic of Moldova reached the Romanian market, by 6.4 percent more compared to 2022, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics. According to the source, our country exported more to Romania than to 26 other EU countries, and the neighboring state was the main market for cereals from the Republic of Moldova.

In 2023, the value of the exports of the Republic of Moldova to the states of the community block constituted 65.4 percent, by 6.8% more compared to 2022. The European Union also represented 48.3% of our country's imports, increasing by almost one percentage point compared to 2022, reports the National Bureau of Statistics.

According to the source, our country's exports to Romania are higher than in the other 26 states of the EU bloc. Thus, over 35% of all exports from the Republic of Moldova reached Romania, by 6.4% more than in 2022. The second commercial partner of our country is Ukraine, with a share of 14.7% of exports and 12 .4% of imports.

The main exported goods were machines and electrical appliances and their parts - more than 620 million dollars, exceeding petroleum products, the export of which in 2023 decreased by about 29%. The data also show that imports from Russia fell by three and a half times to 322 million dollars.

The evolution of the foreign trade of the Republic of Moldova continued in 2023 to be influenced and affected by the aggression of the Russian Federation on Ukraine and the energy crisis. As a result, the country's exports fell by 6.5% compared to 2022, amounting to more than $4 billion. Imports decreased by about 6 percent, the value of which was 8.6 billion dollars.
