Moldova Aligns Energy with EU, Benefits Citizens

Moldova is adapting its energy laws to align with European Union standards, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov told EcoFM.

He emphasises that this shift is intended to directly benefit Moldovan citizens, rather than simply to fulfil EU requirements.

"We want our citizens to have the same rights, opportunities, and options as those within the EU," Parlicov stated. "Rather than focusing on 'transposing directives,' as a European requirement, I prefer to emphasise that we are gradually bringing our market and the way our energy system operates in line with civilised European standards."

This move comes as Moldova faces an ongoing energy crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine. Russian company Gazprom has drastically reduced natural gas supplies to the country, forcing Moldova to seek more expensive alternatives on European markets.
