Russia's Ukraine War: A Staggering $3 Trillion Cost
Russia's war against Ukraine, launched on February 24, 2022, is considered the most costly in history. German analysts estimate the war has cost approximately $3 trillion.
Additionally, experts at the German Economic Institute say a single attack lasting several hours with missiles and drones against Ukraine costs over half a billion US dollars.
The cost of a war extends beyond military expenditures for weapons, ammunition, and soldiers. The impact is far wider, affecting economies and societies globally. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused severe increases in the prices of energy, fuel, food, and construction materials. This has driven inflation to alarming levels, diminishing purchasing power worldwide.
In the two years of war, Ukraine has received $300 billion in financial, military, and humanitarian aid from world governments and international organisations. The European Union has been the largest donor, providing over $130 billion in aid, followed by the United States, which has sent over $75 billion to Kyiv.
So far, the damage caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine exceeds $250 billion. In the first few days of the war alone, Russia lost $300 billion held in European banks. Another $100 billion belonged to Russian oligarchs, with those funds frozen by European authorities. Western sanctions imposed on Moscow have led to further losses exceeding $250 billion in exports.
