Japan Imposes New Sanctions on Russia Over Ukraine War
Japan will impose additional sanctions on Russian individuals and organisations in response to the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced during the online G7 summit, DW has reported.
Kishida emphasised the importance of showing solidarity with Ukraine as the conflict drags on, saying support for the country would be a key priority for his government this year.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined the G7 leaders at the start of the online meeting.
The G7 leaders said in a statement they are committed to helping Ukraine win the war and to establishing a lasting peace. They pledged to take measures to reduce Russia's revenues and to impose sanctions on countries aiding Russia's war effort.
