Is Moldova Preparing for War? Expert Warns of Urgent Upgrade
The Republic of Moldova must fully utilise the European Peace Facility to modernise its National Army, says foreign policy expert Andrei Curăraru.
He believes both domestic and international interests are aligned in supporting a stronger Moldovan military.
"There's strong support for upgrading our capabilities, especially modernising the army. We need to be clear, this isn't about aggression. It's about replacing outdated Soviet-era equipment with what we need to defend ourselves. The European Peace Facility is crucial for this," Curăraru stated on Radio Moldova "Parallel 47".
Since its creation in March 2021, the European Peace Facility has provided 47 million euros to support the modernization of Moldova's Armed Forces.
This instrument finances all actions of the Common Foreign and Security Policy in the military and defence fields, with the aim of preventing conflicts, maintaining peace and consolidating international security and stability.
