Palestinian PM Resigns: What it Means for the Gaza Conflict
The head of the Palestinian National Authority government, Mohammed Shtayyeh, has submitted his resignation to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, DW has reported.
Shtayyeh cited recent events in the region, including the Gaza conflict, as reasons for his decision.
This resignation follows reports of pressure on President Abbas by the US and Arab nations to reform the Palestinian Authority. Analysts see this as an attempt to revive stalled talks for a two-state solution. Shtayyeh, an ally of Abbas, will remain as interim leader. Forming a new Palestinian government could be a lengthy process, its success hinged on securing a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
