The US military is striking areas controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen with missiles and drones

The American army reported that on Monday it struck with missiles, drones and drone boats located in the areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthi rebels, informs Agerpres.ro.

In a press release, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that between 16:45 and 23:45 (13:45 - 20:45 GMT) its forces destroyed three unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and two mobile anti-ship cruise missiles (ASCM) in areas controlled by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, which were being prepared for launch towards the Red Sea.

They also struck a one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was already over the Red Sea, CENTCOM said.

According to CENTCOM's assessments, the USVs, ASCMs, and UAV "presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and US Navy vessels in the region."

Yemen's Houthi rebels have vowed to attack Red Sea ships linked to Israel. However, many of the ships that were attacked are not related to this country. The rebels' objective is to force an end to Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Because of the Houthi attacks, major shipping companies are increasingly avoiding the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe and sailing around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
