Moldova Honors Ukraine War Anniversary | Minute of Silence
Moldovan lawmakers held a minute of silence Thursday to commemorate the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu opened the session by acknowledging the devastating impact of the war. He noted that the Russian invasion has displaced hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and praised the bravery of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in defending their country.
"Two years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine, launching an unjust war that has killed hundreds of thousands and devastated entire towns and cities," Grosu said. "Ukrainian forces continue to resist bravely, and it is because of them that we live in peace."
On February 24, 2022, Russia attacked Ukraine under the guise of a "special military operation." The war has raged since then, causing a massive humanitarian crisis with millions of refugees and widespread destruction. Moldova, along with the EU, has strongly condemned Russia's aggression and the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories.
