Mihai Popșoi replies to his Russian counterpart: The regime, which imprisons and kills opposition politicians, can offer the world nothing but pain

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, reacts to the threatening statements of his Russian counterpart, Serghei Lavrov, launched during the Diplomacy Forum held in Antalya (Turkey). The head of diplomacy in Chisinau emphasizes that the Kremlin regime, which imprisons and kills opposition politicians, has no moral right to teach democracy lessons.

"Minister Lavrov and the Kremlin regime have no moral right to lecture on democracy and freedom. The country that imprisons opposition politicians and kills them, unjustifiably attacks its neighbors, can offer nothing but blood and pain to the world," says Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.

The head of diplomacy from Chisinau wanted to remind Lavrov that in the Republic of Moldova, politicians are elected within free and transparent electoral processes, internationally recognized, where each candidate benefits from equal rights, adequate space for campaigning and the possibility of direct interaction with voters.

During the Diplomacy Forum in Antalya, the Russian Foreign Minister, Serghei Lavrov, resorted to the attack, accusing the Chisinau authorities of the "economic blockade" of the Transnistrian region.

"The regime that has installed itself in Chisinau and is following in the footsteps of the regime in Kiev, canceling everything that means Russian, discriminating against the Russian language in all spheres of action, and together with the Ukrainians imposed the economic blockade of the Transnistrian region," declared Serghei Lavrov.

Mihai Popșoi urges his counterpart from Moscow to get information from official sources about the situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

"It is important that Minister Lavrov inform himself correctly about the situation in the Transnistrian region, where more than 70% of local production and services are exported to the member states of the European Union. The Republic of Moldova is a democratic state for which freedom and respect for human rights are fundamental values. We are building a European future for all our citizens, regardless of language and ethnicity, to live in peace and prosperity", said Popșoi.

Lavrov's statement in Antalya comes shortly after the "approach" of the self-proclaimed authorities from Tiraspol by which they demand that Russia protect the region, citing economic and social "pressures" from Chisinau.

The Republic of Moldova wants to see a "peaceful and democratic" Russia in the near future, with which to build "good relations", declared the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

"We have nothing against the Russians, we have against the Russian tanks," declared the head of state.

The third edition of the Diplomacy forum is held in Antalya (Turkey) from March 1-3. The Republic of Moldova is represented at the forum by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi.

The forum brings together heads of state and government, ministers and experts who address current topics on the regional and international agenda.
