Thousands of Israelis protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Thousands of Israelis in Tel Aviv took part in a protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government’s handling of the war with Hamas on Saturday, Reuters reports.
The protesters gathered in the city’s Kaplan Junction with some singing and chanting anti-government slogans. Many called for the prime minister to do more to secure the release of 134 hostages being held in Gaza by Palestinian militants.
International pressure for a ceasefire has grown, with more than 30,000 Palestinians killed in Israel’s Gaza offensive, according to Gaza health authorities, and the UN warning that a quarter of the population is one step away from famine.
Israel launched the offensive in response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, in which 1,200 people were killed in Israel and another 253 abducted, according to Israeli tallies.
