Moldova Milks Efforts to Boost Production
Moldova's livestock sector faces a challenge: meeting the country's demand for milk. Currently, the nation only produces about half of the milk it consumes, relying on imports to bridge the gap.
To address this issue, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry is implementing policies aimed at improving the efficiency of dairy farms.
One key strategy involves subsidising milk production. Last year, these subsidies proved to be a significant help for Moldovan farmers. The government aims to further bolster the sector by increasing the number of high-productivity cows. Their goal is to reach 20,000 such cows by 2025, with each animal producing an average of 8,000 to 9,000 litres of milk annually.
This focus on dairy farm efficiency underscores the government's commitment to strengthening Moldova's food security. By increasing domestic milk production, the country can lessen its reliance on imports and ensure a more stable supply of this vital resource.
