IMF Lowers Moldova's 2024 GDP Growth Forecast

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised down its forecast for Moldova's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in 2024. They now predict a 3.9% increase, down from their previous estimate of 4.3%, bani.md has reported.

The forecast for GDP growth at the end of 2023 remains at 2%, according to the IMF.

Looking ahead, the IMF is more optimistic about Moldova's economic prospects. They forecast that the Moldovan economy could grow by 4.8% in 2025. They expect this positive trend to continue with annual growth of 5% in the following three years (2026-2028).

In terms of current prices, the IMF estimates Moldova's GDP will reach 342 billion Moldovan lei in 2024. This figure is projected to rise steadily, reaching 513.9 billion lei by 2028.

Inflation is another key economic indicator. The IMF's forecast for Moldova is an average of 5% for both this year and the next four years. This suggests a period of moderate inflation.

It's important to note that Moldova's economy contracted slightly in the first nine months of 2023. Compared to the same period in 2022, GDP decreased by 0.4%.
