Armenia Eyes EU Accession Amid Russia Tensions
Armenia is considering accession to the European Union, stated Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
He emphasised that amid deteriorating relations with Russia, his country is seeking to align with the West, according to Politico.
"There is widespread discussion in Armenia nowadays, including talks about membership in the European Union," Mirzoyan said.
These statements follow local media reports suggesting that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan intends to start the EU application process by the end of 2024.
Since taking office in 2018, Pashinyan has worked to deepen ties with the West, especially following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the Kremlin's growing support for Armenia's regional rival, Azerbaijan.
