The head of state, Maia Sandu, together with representatives of the Presidency, pupils, students, employees of the forestry company planted saplings today in the village of Rîșcova in the Criuleni district within the framework of the National Afforestation Program. According to Maia Sandu, 24 thousand acacia saplings were planted on almost 5 hectares of degraded land.
"How can you imagine if every adult in the Republic of Moldova planted 10 trees this spring season and after that 10 trees - in the autumn season. I urge you to participate, in the coming weeks, in the planting of forests in as many localities as possible in the country", said the Head of State.
Employees of the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova and those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova got involved in the afforestation campaign today. At the same time, over 100 soldiers from the Chisinau garrison planted acacia saplings on an area of over 11 hectares, in the village of Pervomaisc in Hâncești district.
The degree of afforestation of the Republic of Moldova is approximately 11%, according to official statistics, being several times lower than the European average. The land map for the entire afforestation campaign can be accessed on the website of the Moldsilva Agency.
