Moldova Expands Dual Education Programs
The number of young people in dual education is increasing, and the authorities want to involve about 2,000 students in this form of study throughout 2024, said the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun.
The official stressed that this program could also be extended to higher education institutions.
“Dual education is critical for economic growth. In 2023, we began subsidising this activity for companies for the first time. We have found an increased interest from the business environment for this support from the Government. Reimbursement of certain expenses that companies have in the process of implementing dual education - 10 million lei allocated. At the same time, we intend to extend it to the level of higher education, so that in their third year, students in certain specialisations who wish to spend a good part of the academic year at the enterprise, working and gaining professional skills at the workplace, can do so,” said Dan Perciun.
Currently, over 140 companies in the Republic of Moldova implement dual education, and so far over 1,700 students from all over the country have been trained. In the Republic of Moldova, dual education has been implemented since 2014. This form of study involves theoretical lessons in vocational and technical education institutions and paid internships at partner companies.
The employment rate of graduates of vocational training programs through the dual system is over 70 percent. Similar programs are applied in countries such as Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
