Tensions Rise as Drones Target Infrastructure in Russia and Ukraine
The Russian Ministry of Defense asserts that its forces have successfully neutralised numerous drones across various regions of the country.
The most significant incident occurred in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia, where an oil refinery was the target of a major attack. Simultaneously, Ukrainian authorities report fresh Russian airstrikes on the port city of Odessa. These airstrikes coincide with Russia's ongoing general presidential elections, where President Vladimir Putin is widely expected to secure victory, as reported by the BBC.
Vladimir Rogov, a leader appointed by Russia in Ukraine's Zaporozhye region, announced on Sunday that two Ukrainian drones targeted a polling station, resulting in a fire, albeit without any casualties. Prior to this, authorities in Krasnodar disclosed that 17 drones were deployed against the oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban. While most were neutralised, one drone triggered a fire upon crashing. There were no reported fatalities as a result of the blaze, which was promptly extinguished.
Additionally, it is reported that one individual succumbed to a heart attack during the series of explosions.
Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin communicated via Telegram that four drones were intercepted in various areas as they approached the capital on Sunday morning.
Furthermore, the governor confirmed another area in the western Belgorod region, adjacent to northern Ukraine, was targeted in the attacks. These incidents represent the ongoing tension in the region, with Belgorod experiencing its second attack this weekend.
