Moldova's Economy Set for Boost with EU Market Access
The European Commission has proposed gradually integrating Moldova into the European Single Market, a move that would accompany the country's ongoing process of EU accession, according to a Facebook post by MEP Siegfried Mureșan, President of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the Republic of Moldova.
The European Single Market is an area of 450 million people where goods and services can move freely without border controls. It is the world's largest single market and a major driver of economic growth and prosperity.
Mureșan explained that access to the Single Market would mean total and permanent liberalisation of trade, making it easier for Moldovan products to enter the European market. At the same time, people in Moldova would have easier access to quality European products at lower prices.
"This is a historic moment for the Republic of Moldova," said Mureșan. "It recognizes the progress Moldova has made on its path to European integration and signifies the European Union's ongoing commitment to supporting Moldova's economic development."
Mureșan added that gradual integration into the Single Market would bring European quality standards to Moldova and would give investors more confidence to come to the country and create new jobs.
"This is a win-win situation for both Moldova and the European Union," said Mureșan. "It will help to create jobs and boost economic growth in Moldova, while also giving European businesses and consumers access to new markets."
