Statement on the European integration of the Republic of Moldova was approved by the Parliament

The statement regarding the European integration of the Republic of Moldova was approved by the Parliament with the vote of 54 deputies.

The document expresses the conviction that "only the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union will ensure the future of the country as a sovereign, neutral, integral and democratic state, and the irreversible path of European integration and accession is a national priority project of the Republic of Moldova".

Thus, the deputies call on the whole society, including all political forces, to show unity and solidarity for the consolidation of the political and social dialogue in the name of the national interest and the strategic objective - the integration and accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

The document "states that the European Union, for decades, has been a reliable partner of our country, providing disinterested logistical and financial support for solving the multiple internal problems of the Republic of Moldova. Also, thanks to the generous support from the EU and the member states, the Republic of Moldova has overcome the crisis caused by the COVID pandemic, as well as the energy crisis in the winter of 2022-2023".

The project also stipulates that European integration will facilitate the civic cohesion of society, will ensure the transition of the Republic of Moldova to a sustainable economic development and will increase the state's capacities to promote effective social policies. In this context, the Parliament requests the Government to take all necessary measures to organize the process of accession to the European Union, as well as to strengthen the state institutions involved in the negotiations.

Through the Declaration, the deputies call the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to unite for a peaceful and European future of our country.

"The European Union is a territory of peace. It was created as a peace project, which put an end to wars in Europe, and its creative energies were no longer directed towards destruction and aggression, but towards prosperity and peaceful development among peoples", reads the Statement.

The Republic of Moldova signed the Association Agreement with the EU in 2014. On March 3, 2022, the authorities in Chisinau signed the application for our country's accession to the EU. The European Union granted, on June 23, 2022, the status of a candidate country for the Republic of Moldova. On December 14, 2023, the European Council decided to start the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
